What are the possible applications of drones in the field of health?

The working group for the incorporation of drones in the field of health, coordinated by the TIC Salut Social Foundation, has produced an infographic with practical questions for professionals or organisations that are considering using this technology. The document specifically includes an outline of what is needed to fly a drone, the different operational models that currently exist, and the possible use cases and benefits of using them in health.

As explained in the following video by Núria Abdón,the coordinator of the working group and head of Personalised Care at the TIC Salut Social Foundation, the group is made up of representatives of the Departmental Committee for Innovation and Transformation of the Health System at the Department of Health, the Health and Social Consortium of Catalonia, the Catalan Union of Hospitals, organisations in the Catalan Health System (SISCAT), Garrotxa County and Olot Hospital Foundation, and tech companies, as well as the TIC Salut Social Foundation.

In the video, Neus Domènech, the head of Innovation at the Garrotxa County and Olot Hospital Foundation, comments on the results of the work day and pilot test of the transport of biological samples by drone, which was held in May at that centre, as part of the working group. The test made it possible to keep the biological samples in good condition and significantly reduce the time and CO2 emissions compared with the same journey by land.

The working group is now finalising a report on the state of the art for drones, which will soon be published in the TIC Salut Social Foundation’s digital library, where the infographic on the application of drones in health is now available.
