The Fundació TIC Salut Social is participating in a new project entitled VALORA, which began in 2018. Its objective is to analyse the degree of satisfaction in the use of the Propeller platform in patients with asthma and COPD and their healthcare professionals. The study is to be carried out in collaboration with various Primary Health Care Centres in the Delta de Llobregat area under the clinical supervision of Dr. Simonet and coordinated by the foundation itself.
A total of sixty people diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and/or Asthma will participate in the pilot phase. The patients who are chosen will use the Propeller platform for a period of 6 months. Propeller is composed of the following elements: a) an inhaler with a sensor adapted to the Ellipta dispenser -which notifies the user by means of an audio warning and delivers the dose required according to the treatment-; b) a free app for the patient to control and supervise their treatment; c) a web portal for patients and healthcare professionals. Each user has their own, unique interface which provides them with information as to their respiratory health.
Thus, the system analyses the frequency of use of the inhaler and the duration of the treatment, it calculates the patients’ habits, while empowering them by providing them with information as to their respiratory level and other information linked to the disease.
At present, the Ethical Committee has given its approval for the study to be conducted, which is expected to start recruiting patients shortly.
