Author: Jesús Berdún   /  13 of December of 2018

The start of a new mental health project, aimed at improving treatment in patients with schizophrenia.

The e-MOTIPH Project began on November 16. It focuses on improving the follow-up of patients with mental disorders through the use of new technologies. The project belongs to the EUROSTARS programme, co-financed by the member countries of EUREKA and the European Union’s HORIZON 2020 Framework Program (ID 12470). The project focuses on the development of mHealth solutions for mental health.

The consortium is made up of the following organizations: Grupo Pulso, coordination and developments; Fundació TIC Salut Social and Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, definition of needs and design; and the companies Nurogames and Pryv, integration and development of the solution. The Fundació TIC Salut Social plays an important role in identifying needs, through a methodology focused on the patient’s experience.

The aim of e-MOTIPH is to develop an mHealth solution for mental health. The solution seeks to improve the monitoring and preparation of patients with schizophrenia. Therefore, a more active participation in the therapeutic processes will be considered, involving patients, professionals and caregivers. To this end, the concept e-MOTIPH seeks to develop a tool which facilitates patient follow-up. To achieve this, the integration of evaluation, support and patient monitoring modules will be considered.

Disruptive elements of e-MOTIPH

The main disruptive elements which are considered for the development of the e-MOTIPH solution are:

  • Functions designed specifically to meet the patients’ needs.
  • An intelligent system for personalized care plans and predictions.
  • Clinically relevant parameter assessment tools through the capture of various data sources

These technologies allow for the patient’s mood to be inferred. In addition, the associated variables may prove highly valuable in the field of mental health. Therefore, the e-MOTIPH solution will consist of a portable device, an app and a website.

The expected functions will facilitate patient evaluation, risk detection, psychological training, social interaction and preparation. All thanks to an intelligent system.

The ultimate aim is to achieve a greater commitment and a more active participation in the therapeutic processes by patients, professionals and caregivers.
