The use of new mobile technologies in the health and social welfare sectors is already a reality. The TIC Salut Social Foundation, in accordance with the technological strategy of the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Department of Work, Social Affairs and Families, is leading an initiative to create a public directory of applications.
The prestigious Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR), with an impact factor of 4541, the first of the 22 in the “Medical Informatics” category, includes, in its December 2018 edition (volume 7, nº 12, 2018) , the article: “Prescription and Integration of Accredited Mobile Apps in Catalan Health and Social Care: Protocol for the Appsalut Site Design”. Throughout the document, a report on the design of the project, with a global perspective, is applied to the Catalan ecosystem, which can be divided into 3 areas: the framework that governs the recommendation and prescription of applications, the subset of interoperability for mobile environments and data storage infrastructure.
The project has evolved according to the changes in the technological and social paradigm and responds very satisfactorily to the needs raised. It can be seen as a historical experience in mobile strategies in the fields of health and well-being of any public health system. Experience has proven to be viable in organizational terms, necessary in any attempt to integrate mobile technologies into public health practices and a worldwide pioneer in this field.
