Josuè Sallent, the new director of the UVic-UCC’s Health and Social ICT Chair

On Wednesday 12^th the Executive Committee of the Fundación Universitaria Balmes (FUB) passed a proposal to appoint Josué Sallent as the new director of the Health and Social ICT Chair which until now has been directed by Dr Francesc García Cuyàs, together with the change of name of the Chair, which now includes the word “social”. Sallent holds a PhD in physics from the University of Barcelona and is the current director of the Fundació TIC Salut Social, the partner with whom the UVic-UCC created the Chair.

The Chair’s mission is to generate, disseminate and transfer knowledge on the use of ICT in the field of health and social services, initially in terms of three major areas, to which others may subsequently be added:

• To promote the use of ICT within the health and social sector by identifying innovation and research projects.
• The definition of a framework of professional competences in the field of ICT, health and social care.
• The rational use of telemedicine to improve a non-attendance healthcare model.
