The COMPDIG-Health project was created to implement the conclusions of Challenge 4 of the Professional Dialogue Forum, and to improve health professionals’ ICT skills. In this context, in 2021 an exploratory study was carried out among health professionals currently working in Catalonia, coordinated by Elisenda Reixach, a project manager at the TIC Salut Social Foundation. To carry out the study, a survey was produced that included a set of questions based on the ACTIC digital skills needed to pass the Intermediate Level (ACTIC-2). 803 professionals answered the survey. All of the results and conclusions are set out in a report available on the foundation’s website. They provide an overview of the current situation, the training needs in the ICT field, and the pertinent actions to resolve them. Part of the results of this study have recently been published in the journal JMIR.
In addition, the pilot of the Digital Skills for Health Assessment Model has been carried out. The aim of this pilot was to test the proposed model for assessing digital skills for health professionals defined within the framework of the project in an environment similar to an ACTIC-type telematic test. The pilot has also made it possible to identify improvements from the viewpoint of the professional training model, such as time, number of questions, type of question and professional profiles, among others. The full results report is available to read.
The results of both studies show that most participants have a knowledge level below ACTIC 2. It is therefore necessary to reformulate the strategy for accreditation and training of professionals, draw up an action plan to implement it by segmenting professionals by the digital skills necessary for the creation of pathways, and assess the pathways and training content with a professional training pilot scheme.
