Interoperability Area

The WiFIS (Work Flow for Healthcare Institutions) interoperable framework allows centres included in the Catalan public health system (SISCAT) to exchange information in a standardised way, normalise processes, and communication between systems belonging to primary healthcare, specialised, or mental health centres.

In order to normalise processes and communication, Implementation guides have been created that define rules, information exchange models, messaging, and terms to achieve this standardisation. All the centres that follow the implementation guidelines will be able to connect to the interoperability platform defined in the iS3 project in order to exchange information with other centres that use the same protocol.

The main standards WiFIS is based on are HL7 V2.5 messaging (using also 2.7 and later versions) and SNOMED CT terminology to represent contents.

During 2017 and 2018, a blood glucose meter certification process was carried out.

The objective is to promote a common data exchange format so the information generated by the blood glucose meters is interoperable.

The process consists in verifying the devices follow directives PCHAlliance Continue. More particularly, standard ISO/IEEE 11073-10417: Blood glucose meters specialisation.

The interoperability area has taken part in the European ICTUSnet project, jointly led by the Catalan Cerebral Vascular Diseases Master Plan and AQuAS.

The TIC Salut Social Foundation defined the interoperability framework.

Within the SIMDCAT project framework, OFSTI has created an evaluation on Supplement 145 DICOM to standardise digital pathology representation, sending, and treatment.
