The TIC Salut Social Foundation participates in the conference on the challenges of Catalan healthcare, organized by Foment del Treball

Joan Guanyabens, Director of the TIC Salut Social Foundation, advocates for the key role of digital transformation in ensuring the sustainability and personalization of the healthcare system.

On Wednesday, May 8, Foment del Treball and Boehringer Ingelheim held the event “Challenges of Catalan Healthcare in the Current Legislature”, bringing together institutional representatives, health sector experts, and professionals in research, management, and healthcare innovation.

The TIC Salut Social Foundation actively participated through its director, Joan Guanyabens, who took part in the round table on health policy challenges. During his speech, Guanyabens emphasized:

“We must properly leverage the possibilities of information and communication technologies to address the main challenges of healthcare systems: sustainability and personalization (humanization).”

This insight aligns with the Foundation’s mission to promote the adoption of digital solutions that place citizens at the center of the system and ensure more efficient, safer, and more connected care.

The Minister of Health, Olga Pané, opened the session by stressing that the Catalan healthcare system faces challenges that require not only more resources, but also deep structural reforms. Pané highlighted the need to:

  • Resolve the system’s chronic funding deficit

  • Ensure accessibility and continuity of care

  • Advance toward better integration between health and social care

The event also underscored the strategic value of the health sector as a social and economic driver. Roser Fernández, Chair of the Committee on Care for People, Health and Social Affairs at Foment and Director General of the Catalan Union of Hospitals, emphasized that health is not just an expense, but an investment in the future.

The event featured three round tables addressing key topics such as:

  • Health policies and the care model

  • Challenges in research and innovation

  • Management of professionals, and the economic and environmental sustainability of the system

The closing remarks were delivered by the Director of CatSalut, Alfredo García Díaz, who reaffirmed the institutional commitment to advancing toward a more digital, more efficient, and more human healthcare system.
