The proof of concept to test the industry label of the xShare project will start in January

The xShare project and the TIC Salut Social Foundation sign a collaboration agreement to launch the deployment of the industrial label certifying the quality of the xShare yellow button. The agreement establishes an initial one-year pilot set to begin at the end of January 2026. The aim is to explore how participating healthcare organisations can adopt and validate the patient health-data download button through the xShare industrial label. This industrial label is designed to support Europe in moving towards a more secure and interoperable exchange of health data.

Testing in real-world environments

The purpose is to verify, in real-world settings, the correct implementation of the yellow button developed by the xShare project consortium. The pilot will identify technological aspects that could be improved and gather evidence to guide the future adoption of the button at European scale. It will focus on private electronic health record applications used in Catalonia. These applications will undergo a full evaluation, including documentation review, technical testing, and the final certification stage.

A major part of the work will revolve around interoperability. The tests will assess whether structured patient data meets the requirements of the main European standards in widespread use. In this regard, the foundation will carry out tests using the Gazelle tool, review the maturity level of the implementation of the International Patient Summary, and validate the functionality of the xShare yellow button for downloading this data in real-world environments.

xShare will provide the foundation with access to all necessary tools and documentation for the evaluation and will take part in discussions on the results and methodological improvements. The foundation will lead the evaluation, prepare the final report, and define the recommendations that may guide the industrial label, which will be based on its digital asset certification service.

These pilots represent an important step in supporting European health systems as they adapt to the European Health Data Space. The pilot in Catalonia is the first step in positioning a European region as a benchmark for transferring this model of data exchange and download to other regions wishing to validate such functionalities reliably and interoperably on a large scale.
