New course on artificial intelligence, data management and bioinformatics in healthcare

On 4 February, the course Artificial Intelligence, Data Management and Bioinformatics in the Health Sector will begin. It is promoted by Bioinformatics Barcelona and the Institute of Continuing Education IL3, with the support of the TIC Salut i Social Foundation, the Catalan Society for Digital Health, the Catalan Union of Hospitals, and the Health and Social Care Consortium of Catalonia. The programme is aimed at healthcare professionals who wish to incorporate artificial intelligence AI in a trustworthy way.

The course provides a solid and practical foundation in artificial intelligence, clinical data management, ethics, model validation, and integration into care workflows. Among its objectives, it aims to enable professionals to identify opportunities to incorporate AI based solutions into healthcare processes and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on healthcare innovation projects.

The teaching team includes Maria Bretones and Vaneza Gómez, project managers from the AI Area of the TIC Salut i Social Foundation, and Míriam Méndez, a member of the team at the Office of the Health Data Protection Officer. Maria Bretones and Vaneza Gómez will take part in the sessions on AI fundamentals and on the evaluation and interpretation of AI models, the latter in collaboration with the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia AQuAS. Míriam Méndez will lead the session on ethical and legal aspects of AI in health.

The course is delivered online, lasts six weeks, and is worth 2 ECTS credits.
