Infographic about the UNICAS project for comprehensive care for paediatric rare diseases in Spain

The UNICAS project, led by the Ministry of Health, has published an infographic to publicise its main objectives and key points. ÚNICAS is working to create a national ecosystem of alliances for an improved response for paediatric patients with complex rare diseases throughout the entire care process. The project will provide comprehensive care to patients and their families through a 30-node network of specialised departments distributed throughout all the autonomous communities and the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA).

The project nodes in Catalonia are the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, Vall d’Hebron Hospital and the Parc Taulí Healthcare Corporation Consortium. These nodes will be equipped with common tools, processes and protocols to establish a model of personalised care across the network. In this way, patients with paediatric diseases will be able to be treated at any node in the network as if they were at the reference centre for their pathology, regardless of where they reside; that is, the data will travel, not children.

Catalonia leads the development and technological integration of the ÚNICAS project. The TIC Salut Social Foundation is responsible for executing this line of action, assessing the technological maturity of the autonomous communities, defining the technological requirements of the basic project tools, ensuring that they are developed and deploying the node network.

The project is within the scope of the Digital Personalised Care Plan, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Next Generation European funds.
