The pilot study on the use of drones in the neurorehabilitation of patients with vascular brain injury and frontal dysfunction, led by the Fundació Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa and the TIC Salut i Social Foundation, in collaboration with UPC, has been awarded one of the 2025 Stroke Unit Prizes by the Josep Trueta University Hospital in Girona. The awards were presented yesterday during a prevention day event organised to mark World Stroke Day.
The award-winning project, still in its pilot phase, aims to improve rehabilitation processes for patients with neurological conditions through exercises using small drones, enabling therapies to be tailored to each individual’s needs. The drones, designed for indoor use, can serve as motivational tools in rehabilitation processes, as their flight and control dynamics stimulate both the motor and cognitive systems.
The award was collected by Marta Linares and Neus Domènech on behalf of the Fundació Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa, and by Pau Gallinat, a member of the Personalised Digital Care team at the TIC Salut i Social Foundation.
The Stroke Unit also recognised the project “Reconnecting after Stroke: Emotional Support and Guidance for Patients and Families”, which focuses on emotional and community support for people who have experienced a stroke.
