Hospital Clínic Barcelona, the Health/AI Programme of the Department of Health and the UB Chair in Precision Oncology, in collaboration with MIT Critical Data, announce a new edition of the GenAI Health Hack, the leading event for exploring the application of generative artificial intelligence in Catalonia’s health system.
This year, the hackathon will once again take place at the NTT Data Barcelona venue and will include an inaugural day of conferences featuring experts and professionals from the health sector, held at the Hotel SB Icaria. Over the course of three days, multidisciplinary teams made up of health professionals, researchers, engineers, students, data scientists, ethics specialists and patients will work together to solve real challenges from the Catalan Health System. The aim is to drive cutting-edge solutions, promote the responsible use of AI and strengthen the collaborative ecosystem among healthcare institutions, research centres, universities and industry. This new edition places particular emphasis on creating an open ecosystem where innovation grows through shared knowledge, data and experience.

2024 edition
The first edition of the GenAI Health Hack took place in November 2024 and brought together 94 participants, organised into 13 multidisciplinary teams that worked alongside 17 mentors specialising in health, technology and ethics. The teams addressed real challenges related to four key areas of application of generative artificial intelligence in healthcare: automatic structuring of unstructured clinical language, natural language to SQL query translation to facilitate access to clinical data, clinical decision support, and the development of chatbots for professional training or patient education. The event generated strong interest among professionals and students from the fields of technology and health, as well as institutional representatives, establishing itself as a leading meeting point for promoting responsible innovation in AI applied to health.
