Last Thursday, 16 December, the Office of the Data Protection Officer (DPO)<\/a> of the TIC Salut Social Foundation presented the new platform for carrying out<\/a> a DPIA in the health field<\/a>. This platform is the evolution of the tool created a year ago and based on the methodology developed jointly by the Office of the DPO and the Observatory of Bioethics and Law of the University of Barcelona.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his initial comments, Dr Fabregat, Director of BIOCAT<\/a>, stressed that “it was very necessary to develop a useful, agile and intuitive DPIA tool to facilitate the work of data controllers […] to homogenize and standardize criteria and procedures for work”. The platform arrives at a moment when research and innovation are becoming increasingly digitalized enabling different types of personal data to be gathered, always from the point of view of respect, intimacy and personal privacy in line with the principles of bio-ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first part of the presentation, Ms Teresa Miquel, Data Protection Officer and General Manager of the law firm Metricson <\/a>and Dr <\/a>Itziar de Lecuona, Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine and Director <\/a>of the Bioethics and Law Observatory at the University of Barcelona, emphasized how academic knowledge has been able to find a practical solution to an essential field such as health to apply legal principles that protect rights and properly channel research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This tool, promoted by the Office of the DPO, provides a specific response to health needs, especially in research and innovation. An area that poses the greatest challenges\u201d, said Lecuona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second part of the event, Ms Paula Sub\u00edas, a data scientist in the field of health at Digiturn \u2013 <\/em>The Chain Partners<\/em><\/a> gave a demonstration of the main functions of the platform. This tool has been structured to follow the necessary steps, from the very beginning of any project, which enable the detection of risks and their mitigation in an agile manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Director of the Office of the DPO, Mr Robert Rubi\u00f3, closed the event with a word of thanks to all the professionals involved in the development of the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
