The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) has created a pioneering model in Europe to develop artificial intelligence solutions that respect fundamental rights.<\/p>\n
The methodology, presented to the Parliament of Catalonia, has been developed by a working group formed as part of the DPO network of the APDCAT. The Office of the Data Protection Officer of the TIC Salut Social Foundation has actively participated in this group coordinated by Dr. Alessandro Mantelero, professor at the Polytechnic University of Turin.<\/p>\n
The model developed allows us to evaluate the impact on fundamental rights of the use of AI in the design, development and use of tools and solutions that, in accordance with the Artificial Intelligence Regulation, are considered high-risk. This is a classification that applies to many of those uses that affect people’s health.<\/p>\n
Carrying out this impact assessment on fundamental rights is a requirement of the European AI regulation that addresses the use and commercialisation of these high-risk systems.<\/p>\n
The conclusions drawn by the working group have been compiled in a document that was presented to the Parliament of Catalonia and is structured in two parts: the first describes the methodology created and the second presents some of the specific cases in which it has been used, highlighting its practical application.<\/p>\n
