In 2007, the\nInternational Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO)\nacquired the rights and intellectual property of all versions of SNOMED,\n\u200b\u200bincluding the current SNOMED CT. In 2011, the IHTSDO published a new format<\/strong> for terminology called RF2<\/strong>. These changes do not affect the\ncodes of the various SNOMED CT concepts but rather the way they are stored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\norganization identified 2017 as the deadline for migrating from the old format\nto the new one (from RF1 to RF2) and currently, international versions of\nSNOMED CT are only distributed in RF2. In 2019, the Catalan extension of SNOMED\nCT will only be published in the RF2 format. Another change that occurred in\n2017 was the elimination of SnomedId<\/strong>\nwhich pathologists and cancer records had previously used to code the\nmorphology of neoplasms. The snomedID of the SNOMED concepts coincided with the\nmorphological codes (“the Ms”) of the International Classification\nfor Oncological Diseases, CIM-O.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Several\nnewly developed computer applications in pathology laboratories only show\ndescriptions of SNOMED CT for the requested morphological concept (not the\nSnomedID), and the pathologist must select the most suitable one. When\npathologists carries out coding based on the descriptions, they do not refer to\nthe associated SnomedID they previously used. Therefore, neoplasms in pathology\nlaboratories can be coded with any SNOMED CT neoplasm concept, and not only\nwith the morphological terms referenced in the CIM-O. This is precisely where\nthe problem lies in detecting neoplasms in laboratories based on international\ncriteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With the\nOncology Master Plan [PDO in Catalan], in collaboration with the Oficina de\nCat\u00e0legs d\u2019eSalut, the Interoperability area of \u200b\u200bthe Fundaci\u00f3 TIC Salut\nSocial\u2019s Area d’Interoperabilitat, have employed different resources to help\ncarry out this detection. With the aim of reducing and facilitating the\nhomogenization of coding between laboratories, a pathology subset was defined –\nthrough its creation in the Catalan extension of SNOMED CT- which include the\nconcepts proposed by the World Health Organization Blue Books, which up until\nthen had not been incorporated into SNOMED CT.
