“RADIO” Project, Robots in Assisted Housing Environments

Autor: Adrià G.Font   /  25 May de 2017

RADIO is a project formed by a European consortium of different research institutions, health centres and companies with the aim of developing a smart robotised home with discrete (unobtrusive), efficient and modular solutions to achieve independent aging.

From February to May of this year, Granollers General Hospital has been the focus of the project, hosting 3 of the central meetings:

  • February: Preparation and development of a pre-pilot study with 5 patients, selected from the Day Hospital of the Geriatric Centre.
  • March: Technical review Meeting. Technical integration of the RADIO platform adapted to the centre, with the participation of different member entities of the consortium.
  • May: Review Meeting. On May 8, the pre-review Meeting took place and on the 9th, the second year of the project was reviewed. The session was held at the Hotel Ciutat de Granollers and the facilities of the Geriatric Centre, and received a representation of the European Union responsible for the project and 3 independent reviewers. These all visited the different spaces of the smart room and a demo was made of the RADIO system.

The project is currently in an initial stage of pilot trials, which will be run by the Adolfo Montañà Geriatric Centre in May-June and October-November with 24 volunteers.

The project will be attended by the NCSR "Demokritos", Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece (Greece), Ruhr Univeristyet Bochum (Germany), Robotnik Automation SLL (Spain), Sensing & Control Systems S.L. (Spain), AVN Innovative Technology Solutions LtD (Cyprus), Fondazione Santa Lucia (Italy), Fundació Hospital Asil de Granollers (Spain) and Frontida Zois (Greece).
